Learn about ‘live staking’ to reduce erosion at free demo this Monday, Oct. 26

Looking for a natural way to reduce shoreline erosion? Live staking involves planting cuttings from certain trees and shrubs directly into moist soil, where they can develop roots and grow into new plants. As those roots become established, they help hold soil in place along lake shores and streambanks.

Join Waldo County Soil and Water Conservation District, Sebasticook Regional Land Trust and Maine Forest Service for a hands-on live staking demonstration at Moulton’s Mill Preserve on Monday, October 26, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.

The free workshop is open to anyone interested in using native plants to reduce erosion and improve water quality—including shoreline property owners, volunteers, students, conservation professionals, and community members. No prior experience is needed.

Please bring weather-appropriate clothing, boots, work gloves, and loppers or hand pruners. Park at the boat launch lot. See map here.
